Anna Perkins is a violinist, fiddler, and educator from the Chicago area who is passionate about strengthening community, imagination, storytelling, and joy with listeners, collaborators, and students through a blend of classical and folk fiddling traditions.
Anna is a two-time Fulbright award recipient and a graduate of St. Olaf College. She recently received an Artist Diploma with Distinction from OAcademy Conservatory, and performs with several area orchestras including Symphony 847 and The Racine Symphony. Anna is also Orchestra Director and Violin Instructor at The People’s Music School, Violin/Viola Instructor at Sistema Ravinia, and Senior Ambassador at The Benedetti Foundation (UK). She has performed as a solo, orchestral, and chamber musician in festivals, recitals, and concerts across the U.S., Mexico, Argentina, and Uruguay. Anna is also an active member of Chicago’s Scottish fiddling community.
Her recent projects include presenting a chamber music concert “Folk Music & the Art of Arrangement,” touring central Mexico with Sinfónica Azteca, and attending Alasdair Fraser’s Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School for the second time.
Her teaching is rooted in discovering or reconnecting with the joy of music making, developing musical expressivity, and cultivating healthy technique that serves both the musician and the music. Anna works well with complete beginners through intermediate and advanced level students.
